Ο Μέλλοντας εκφράζεται με:

α) Present Continuous.

• Για ένα  μελλοντικό γεγονός που είναι 100% σίγουρο.

• Που το έχουμε προγραμματίσει.

• Που θα γίνει στο κοντινό μέλλον.

β) Be going to + ρήμα σε απαρέμφατο.

• Για ένα μελλοντικό γεγονός που είναι 70% σίγουρο.

• Για φιλοδοξίες ή σχέδια.

Σκοπεύω να...
Σκέφτομαι να...
Σχεδιάζω να...
Φιλοδοξώ να...

• Βάσιμες ενδείξεις ορατές προβλέψεις οτι κάτι θα γίνει στο μέλλον. You play great! You are going to be a famous pianist one day.

• Δεν πηγαίνει με ρήματα κίνησης (π.χ. come, go)

γ) Future Simple (will + ρήμα στο απαρέμφατο).

• Για ένα μελλοντικό γεγονός που είναι 40% σίγουρο.

• Για:

Παρακλήσεις Will you marry me?
Απειλές  - προειδοποιήσεις  I'll kill you!
Υποσχέσεις I will always love you.
Ελπίδες - προσφορές I will open the door for you.
Αβασιμες ενδείξεις ή προβλέψεις He will be a grate artist one day.

• Για αποφάσεις στιγμής. It's hot in here. I will open the window.

• Για να ζητήσω ή να προτείνω κάτι. Will you marry me?

• Για αναπόφευκτο γεγονός. Everyone will die some day!

Στις χρονικές προτάσεις (time clauses) μετά τους χρονικούς συνδέσμους όπως π.χ. τους

...όταν αναφερόμαστε στο μέλλον, δεν χρησιμοποιούμε will, αλλά κάποιον present tense (π.χ. present simple, present perfect simple).

Εξαίρεση α.
όταν το when παύει να είναι χρονικό και μεταφράζεται ως "πότε" σε πλάγια ερωτηματική.
I will let you know when I make the arrangement.
αλλά
I don't know when they will come.

Εξαίρεση β.
όταν το if είναι μεν υποθετικό αλλά:

• χρησιμοποιήται με εκφράσεις άγνοιας ή αβεβαιότητας.

I will tell you her news if she comes.

αλλά

I doubt if they will get married.

I don't know if she will come.

• κάνουμε ευγενική παράκληση.

If you will wait a minute, Mr. Smith will be able to see you.

• επιμένουμε.

If you will go on making so much noise, I'll send you out.

1) The president is to visit Poland next Monday.

2) Look! The train is about to leave.

3) Look! The bus is on the point of leaving.

4) Look! The train is due to leave. (μόνο για δρομολόγια).

5) With verbs as: plan, decide, intend, arrange, mean + to + infinitive: I plan to buy a new car.

6) The plan is sure to succeed.
    The plan is certain to succeed.
     The plan is bound to succeed.


FUTURE IN THE PAST
 
1) The president was to visit Poland next Monday.

2) The train was about to leave.

3) The bus was on the point of leaving.

4) The train was due to leave. (μόνο για δρομολόγια).

5) With verbs as: plan, decide, intend, arrange, mean + to + infinitive: 

6) was/were + going to + VERB

I knew you were going to go to the party.

 

7) Would + bear infinitive

I knew you would help him.
I knew you would have helped him.

8) Past Continuous
The last time I met her, she was leaving for a new job in Italy the following day.
It was September. Mary was starting school the next week.
We were very busy. The shop was opening in two weeks time.
